Myth is the hand-work of many authors focusing on an essential topic from an archetypal level, but story is the expression of individual life experience. Too often women have given over the authorship of their stories (and lives) to a society largely dominated by male concerns and focus. Herstory was mainly composed of "what he wanted to know about her." It is now possible for women to learn to take charge and even change their stories from that of the archetypal mother, heroine or virgin.
